Certifications listed confirm brands including Monkee Genes are environmentally friendly and socially responsible.

Globally there is a leading textile processing standard for organic fibres known as The Global Organic Textile standard (GOTS). The standard is backed by independent certification which stipulates ecological and labour conditions required throughout the production process.

The aim of the dynamic GOTS standard is to develop better textile processing methods, from harvesting raw materials, ensuring social and environmental responsibility. The standard provides global acceptance and re-assures you the end consumer. Throughout all stages of the processing organic fibres, products being produced much be kept separate from standard fibre products and must be clearly identified in production. During the production process chemical inputs are monitored and they must meet basic requirements on toxicity and biodegradability. Chlorine bleaching cannot be used, or bleaches based on oxygen and azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds. Any productions which have wet processing stages much always keep records of chemicals, energy, water consumption and wastewater treatment. Including the disposal of sludge. All waste eater is treated in a functional wastewater treatment plant.
Fabrics which are made from GOTS organic fabrics must have a minimum of 70% organic cotton in order to be classified as a GOTS certified fabric.

Internationally the Organic Content Standard (OCS) is a voluntary standard that provides requirements for third party certification of certified organic input and the chain of custody. The OCS standard has been implemented to increase organic agriculture production.

The OCS standard confirms the organically grown content of products which you the end consumer will purchase and provides companies like us Monkee Genes a recognised tool to communicate this to you.

Vegan fashion – clothes, shoes and accessories that contain no leather, fur, wool, skin, exotic skins or any other animal-derived fabric – is revolutionising the way that we shop and dress. Monkee Genes are proud to vow never to produce garments in cruelty, meeting the demand for animal-friendly clothes in style.

Although you can easily find fashionable animal-free products in many high-street stores, Monkee Genes have chosen to go further, either by ensuring that everything we sell is 100 per cent vegan or by clearly sign-posting our vegan products. The “PETA-Approved Vegan” logo is a way of helping ethical consumers identify where to shop with confidence, safe in the knowledge that they’re not supporting the exploitation of animals.
